Zoom is a cloud-based videoconferencing and collaboration platform. With Zoom, you have the flexibility to create virtual classrooms and invite students to join from their desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Students can also share content from their devices, such as PowerPoint presentations and YouTube videos. Zoom is available to all faculty, staff, and students for academic purposes.
All UND-Zoom accounts (faculty, staff, and students) are now automatically created with the Pro license, removing the 40-minute meeting limit.
Install and Get Started with Zoom
UND Zoom accounts are automatically created with a pro license. Sign in to Zoom to create your account.
- Go to UND.zoom.us.
- Click Sign In.
- On the NDUS Sign In page, enter your NDUS.Identifier username and password (same as used for Blackboard and Campus Connection).
- Click Sign In.
- Once signed in, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Download to download and install the Zoom Client for Meetings.
- Once the Zoom Meeting Client is downloaded and installed, select Sign in with SSO. Enter und for the company domain and then sign in using your NDUS.Identifier and Password (same as used for Blackboard).
- Run and sign into the Zoom Client before joining your Zoom sessions to ensure you are signed into your UND Zoom account. You can tell that you have signed into the correct account by clicking your profile icon (in the top-right of the Zoom home page). In the drop-down menu, you should see colorful text that says 'LICENSED.'
Accessing a Zoom Class Session (Students)
- If Zoom is being used in you class, your instructor should post a link to your Zoom meeting inside of your Blackboard course site, or they may share the meeting link by email prior to your first class session.
- Please contact your instructor if you do not have the URL for your class's meeting.
Request Access to Cloud Recording (Faculty/Staff Only)
- By default, all Zoom accounts have the ability to create Local Recordings. Review Meeting Host Tutorials section below for more details.
- If you will be using Zoom for a course, and you would like to use Zoom's cloud storage space for your recordings, please complete a Cloud Recording Request Form.
- Note: Instructors only need to submit a request for cloud recording once. Once instructors have cloud recording applied to their account, it will remain.
- The cloud recording retention period may be reduced due to increased demand and limited storage space. Zoom cloud recordings are meant to be temporary (current semester or less) and YuJa or OneDrive should be used for longer term storage. Notifications will be sent to users' UND email addresses prior to removal of Zoom cloud recordings. Please download or transfer your recordings to another service as soon as it is practicable in your course.
