Blackboard Test Settings such as availability, number of attempts, time, etc. apply to the entire class by default. If you need to make an exception, or adjust the test settings for a specific student or group of students, you can do so using Blackboard's Test Availability Exceptions. These settings may be used to grant a second attempt or a due-date extension, or to allow additional testing time for students with disability accommodations. Please see the sections below for an overview of the available settings, and instructions for their use.
Access Test Availability Exceptions
- Locate the desired test inside of your Blackboard course's Content Area, and click the grey circle/arrow button to its right. From the drop-down menu, select 'Edit the Test Options'. This will open the test settings page.
- On the test settings page, scroll down to 'Test Availability Exceptions', and click 'Add User or Group'. This will open a pop-up menu where you can select individual users.
- In the 'Add User or Group' window, locate the user who will be granted an exception, check the box that appears to the left of their name(s), and click the 'Submit' button, near the bottom-right of the page. This will return you to the main Test Settings page.
- Back on the Test Settings page, the name of the user(s) you just added will appear in the list, under NAME. Now, you can make changes to that individual's test settings: Use the drop-down menu to allow a single, multiple, or unlimited attempts at the test. Use the TIMER field to specify the student's access time in minutes. Click the calendar icon to make changes to the test availability dates for that user. Or click the 'x' icon to remove the user from your exceptions list.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the Test Options page, and click 'Submit' to save the changes.
