Adding/Editing Captions in YuJa

Captioning with YuJa

YuJa’s AI-based automated speech recognition (ASR) provides captions that are 90-95% accurate! Closed captions automatically appear in the Media Player, and are available to students who watch videos using the desktop website, mobile page, and tablet media player applications. In addition to improving video accessibility, captions:

  • Support knowledge retention
  • Help with video perusal and review - students can focus on a desired topic, and return to relevant sections later
  • Simplify media management - users can locate any video by searching for terms used during the presentation

How to Use Video Captioning

YuJa provides a variety of caption-related services and tools. Please see the links below for more information about captioning videos:

  • Directory of YuJa's articles about captioning - Lists all of the captioning help/how-to articles in one place. Please see this page to learn more!
  • Edit captions manually - YuJa's browser-based video editor includes a captioning tool! You can adjust and edit existing captions in real time, making it easy to align the written transcript with the video timestamps.
  • Download the caption file - You may wish to download the captions and work on them in another word-processing application.
  • Upload a caption file - After editing the captions, you can upload them to YuJa, where they will appear along with your video (replacing the original captions).
  • Download notes, resources, and transcripts - Download files associated with a video. Content Creators can choose to attach additional resources to their media files, like a PPt of the slides. These files may contain additional accessible material not included in the basic closed caption, such as labeled diagrams.

YuJa automatically generates an index (text-based outline) for every video by scanning its audio and visual content. The video's index is made available to viewers during playback to help them navigate directly to desired topics. Because the index is automatically-generated, it is always a good idea to review and manually edit it before sharing your video. Please see this article for more information about how users can edit their video's index.
