The latest versions of Microsoft Edge offer the ability to open Microsoft Office files in the browser using Microsoft's Office.com. When this option is enabled, attempting to open Office documents from Blackboard may result in an HTTP 404 error, or the Office online application opens but displays the message "Sorry, there was a problem and we can't open this document. If this happens again, try opening the Document in Microsoft Word"
To correct this issue, please use a different browser (Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome) or use the following steps to turn off “Open Office files in the Browser” within Microsoft Edge.
- Open Microsoft Edge settings
- Select Downloads
- Set Open Office files in the Browser to Off
