Convert Blackboard Site to Ultra for Instructors

Blackboard Ultra Course Experience is a more modern design and easy-to-use interface with some new tools that are not available in the Original Course View, like Progress Tracking and Discussion Analytics.  Visit the Blackboard Ultra Transition web page to learn more.

All Blackboard course sites will be created in the Ultra Course Experience starting Fall 2025. Since Blackboard Ultra has different features and functionality from Blackboard Original, instructors are encouraged to begin transitioning their courses to Ultra now.

Starting Spring 2025, instructors have the ability to preview and convert their own Blackboard course sites to Ultra.  Watch this video to learn how to convert your existing course to Ultra or follow the steps below. For the best results, courses should be converted to Ultra BEFORE adding content and content should be copied in one piece at a time.

  1. Sign into Blackboard and navigate to the course you wish to preview or convert to Blackboard Ultra
  2. Make sure the course is set to Unavailable.  Courses can only be converted to Ultra when they are Unavailable to students.
  3. Click the pencil icon in the top right corner, and select "Try the Ultra Course View".  This will start the conversion process and you will receive an email notification when your course is ready.
  4. Once the conversion is complete, you can preview your course and see how it will look in Ultra.
  5. Select the View Details link in the banner or the Course Exceptions link in the Details & Information area to view how many items won't carry forward in the Ultra Course View. These items are known as exceptions.
  6. In the Conversion Details panel, select a priority group to view the specifics so you can make the best decision for your course. At this time, some features aren't yet included in the Ultra Course View such as surveys, Self and Peer Assessments, wikis, and blogs.
