Download Videos & Other Media from YuJa

In addition to playing and sharing videos, YuJa can also allow viewers to download videos and other media to their own device! Once the media's owner marks it 'available for download' in the settings, a link to save its source file (MP4 for videos) will be available to anyone who can see the video. This is a great option for students to download course content for later review, because the media will be accessible for them to to play any time – even without an Internet connection.

Please note that the download option is disabled by default for all media in YuJa. If you are the video's owner (i.e. you created or uploaded the original file) and you want to allow downloads of this file, you must make this option available for others in the video's settings. Please see the instructions for content owners to make the download option available to viewers. Once enabled, the download link will be available for both viewers and content owners in multiple locations: In the media player, in the media info menu, and additionally as a bulk download option for content owners.

This article demonstrates how to download videos and other media files one (or a few) at a time, but media owners also have access to bulk download multiple files simultaneously, which is a great option for backing up all of your course content quickly and easily. Please see the following instructions for an overview of the different individual file download options.

Download from the Media Player

This option is available for viewers (anyone who can watch the video) not just content owners. Navigate to the video you would like to download. You may follow a link from your Blackboard course directly to the video, or find the video in your course's shared YuJa channel or folder. Click the link or the video link or thumbnail to open it in YuJa's media player. If media is available for download, you will see the Download Media option under Settings (gear icon) in the media player. If the Download Media option isn't available, contact the media's owner and ask them to make it available (using an option in their settings).

  1. Click the gear icon to open the Settings Menu.
  2. Select Download Media.
In the YuJa media player, click the settings/gear icon, then select 'download media'.

  3. You will then be able to select how you would like to download the content. Choose either Audio-Only Content (like a podcast) -or- Audio and Video Content (video with sound, as it appears in the media player).
  4. For recordings with more than one video stream, you must select which one you would like to occupy the larger/main display in your downloaded video file – this will be your Primary Stream. The other, unselected stream will still be visible as a smaller, picture-in-picture window in the corner of the primary display. For example: when downloading a recording of a classroom lecture, where one stream is a shot of the instructor and the other stream is a screen capture of the presentation slides, you may wish to select the presentation slides as the Primary stream to help to preserve the text's legibility.
  5. Enter the email address to which the download link should be sent.
  6. Click the Request Media button. You will receive an email shortly with a link to download the media file in the format you selected.
Select your preferred content format, and a download will be prepared in accordance with the parameters.
