Recover lost OneNote pages in Windows

OneNote automatically stores backups of your notes on the same hard disk drive as your original notebook files. This helps to protect your notes from being accidentally changed, corrupted, or deleted while you work. It also makes restoration of recent notes quick and easy.

Windows 10

  1. Navigate to: C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote\version\Backup\notebook name.

Navigate to the Backup folder in File Explorer.

  1. Click to reopen the page you wish to restore.
  2. That page will open in a new window.
  3. Right-click in the pages section on the page and select Move or Copy.

Right-click menu to select Move or Copy.

  1. In the pop-up window, select which Notebook and Section to move the page to. 
  2. Click either Move or Copy.

Click move or copy

  1. The page should now be located there.
