2024 Microsoft Office 365 License Changes

Microsoft has announced a change in features for Office 365 licenses.

Previously, all Office 365 licenses included an option to install Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) on your home computer.  As of May 2024, this feature is no longer available for former student, staff, and faculty accounts, and some current staff and faculty accounts.  All accounts will still have access to Office on the web.  For information on Office on the web, please see:

What will happen to the Office installed on my home computer?

Thirty to ninety days after the license has changed, the Microsoft 365 version of Office on your home computer will go into Read Only mode.  You will be able to open, view, and print documents, but you will not be able to edit existing documents or create new documents.

You will still have access to Office on the Web, your documents can be edited here.

NOTE:  If you purchased Office, this version will not be affected.

What if I need Office on my home computer?

There are two options:

  1. If you feel you should have this Office with your NDUS Office 365 account, please contact the IT help desk at the campus you were at and arrange with them for the appropriate Microsoft 365 license.
  2. You can purchase your own copy of Office 365 for home or other version of office from Target, Walmart, Office Depot/OfficeMax, or online.  For information on Office 365 for home, please see:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products

Reminder:  You will still have access to Office on the web, free of charge.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with the campus help desk where you last attended or the NDUS Help Desk at 866-457-6387 or ndus.helpdesk@ndus.edu
