What is OriginLabs

OriginLabs software is a graphing and analysis software available to UND students enrolled in specific STEM courses. If you do not know if your department has provided licensing for you to use the software, please check with your department or instructor.

Create an account

If you are assigned a license, you will first want to create an account with Origin Lab.

1. Go to www.originlab.com, and select Create an account.

2. Fill in all required fields. You must use your @UND.edu email account. Non-UND email accounts will not be issued a license.

3. You will receive an email to verify your OriginLab account. Click the link in the verification email to complete that process.
4. You will have received an email from info@originlab.com directing you to follow the link to the "Product Key Request page to get a Product key." Click that link to go to the web page OriginLab's webpage.
5. You will be prompted to log in with your OriginLab account if you are not already signed in. Once there, click the Request button.

6. You will receive an email notifying you that the request has been sent to the UND Software team. Wait for a UND administrator to assign you a license. Once the administrator has provided you with a license, you will receive an email containing the product key assigned to your OriginLab account.

Installation

1. Log into your OriginLab account and go to your user profile.

2. Once there, click Manage my License(s), and click the serial number listed in your account.

3. You will now have an option to click a Download this version button on that web page. Doing so will start a download of OriginLab on your computer.

4. Once the .zip file is downloaded, extract the file's contents.
5. Browse to the folder you have extracted the files to, locate the Setup.exe file, and right-click on it. Select the Run as Administrator option.

6. Click the Yes option.
7. Click Next to begin the installation.

8. Accept the terms of the license and click Next.

9. Select Install Product (requires serial number).

10. Fill the fields and select Next.

11. Confirm the registration.

12. Click Next a few more times and install the program.

Setup

1. Once the program is finished installing, launch the program by opening the start menu and clicking on the OriginLab software.

2. A prompt will appear requesting you to provide a location for Origin to work with files. OriginLab will give you a default location for the files, but you can change this.

3. Once Origin loads, you will be prompted to enter the Product Key that you received via email. Copy and paste it into the product key section, and click the Activate button.

4. Finally, you will be notified that your copy of Origin has been licensed and you will be able to use the software.
