Spirion installation and initial scan

Info! Spirion software will be automatically installed on all UND-owned machines. This installation will not require any interaction from you. If Spirion software is not installed on your pc, please contact the University IT. 

Create a password

Spirion may ask you to create a password, which is necessary if you want to save your computer‘s sensitive data scan results to review at a later time. 

Info! This should be a secure password, but does not need to match your NDUS credentials.

Initial scan

  1. Once installed, an initial scan will begin automatically. You may notice a brief Starting Search dialog box pop up in the lower-right corner of your screen.

  • This scan is scheduled to automatically run weekly, but eventually may occur less frequently once the sensitive data footprint is adequately reduced.
  1. Depending on your computer’s processing speed and the amount of data on your hard drive, the first scan should complete in less than an hour.
  • If you have a usb removable flash drive plugged in, it will be scanned.
  1. When the scan finishes, you will see a Search Completed notification.

Locate and click into the Spirion app on your computer. The icon can be found in your System Icon Tray. To begin a scan, click the green start button located in the upper left corner of the application window.
