Install SPSS Statistics on My Computer

Get the SPSS installer

1. Use your user.name credentials to download the installer file here: SPSS Windows Installer. Note: if your credentials aren't working, or you get an error, please contact UIT for further help.

   

2. Navigate to the download labelled spss_31_win_fy26.zip
3. Click the download so the "Extract" tab appears at the top of the window. Click the tab, then extract the .zip file by clicking the Extract all icon.
   

4. A window will appear asking where to put the extracted zip files. By default the files will go to the same folder the downloaded ZIP file went. Click Extract and wait for the process to complete.
5. Open the SPSS_31_win_fy26 folder. Note the text document in the folder. That contains the authorization code you will need later to license the software.

Install SPSS

1. Run the install file (ISSCAS0_1.0_MP_ML.exe) and follow the prompts to accept license agreements, etc. Click Yes if you get a window asking if you want to allow the app to make changes to your device.
   

2. When the installation completes, Start IBM SPSS Statistics should be checked. Click Finish.

3. SPSS will now prompt you to license the program. Do this by clicking on the Launch License Wizard button.

4. Select the option to Authorize user license, then click Next at the "Product Authorization" page.
5. Copy the code in the SPSS_31_License.txt file that came with the installer. Paste it in the "Enter Code" field and click Add, then Next.
6. You should see "Successfully processed all codes". Click Next, to view all the features included with this licensed version of SPSS. Click Next again.
7. Click Restart on the next prompt.
8. Confirm that SPSS opens correctly.

Get the SPSS installer

1. Use your user.name credentials to download the installer file here: SPSS Mac Installer.
   Note: if your credentials aren't working, or you get an error, please contact UIT for further help.
    
   • Once the download is complete, you may need to expand it by opening the file. That will result in a folder called SPSS_31_Mac_fy26.
     
2. Open the text file named SPSS_31_License.txt.
3. Select and copy the complete line of text, then close the file.
4. Open the file titled IBM SPSS Statistics.pkg. Note that SPSS 29 will be overwritten when installing SPSS 31. Click Continue, then Continue again.
    
5. *NOTE - You may get a notification saying that this app cannot be opened and is blocked. If so follow the steps below, otherwise skip this step. 
   1. Open System Settings by clicking the Apple Logo at the top left of your screen
   2. Go to privacy and Security
   3. Scroll down and click "Open Anyway", continue to follow steps below.
   
   
   
    
6. On the Software License Agreement screen, click Continue, then Agree.
7. With your main drive selected, click Continue, then click Install. When prompted, enter your Mac's password, or use TouchID if available. Allow access to the Desktop or Downloads folder by clicking OK. The install will begin.
8. Once the installation is complete, click Close. If SPSS Statistics doesn't launch automatically, launch it from your App Launcher or Applications folder.
9. At first launch the License Wizard app will open. Click Launch License Wizard.
10. Select the Authorized user license option, then click Next.
    
11. Paste the code you copied earlier in the field labelled Enter Code. Once pasted, click Add, then Next.
12. If the code is accepted, green text should read Authorization succeeded. Click Next, then Finish.
    If you do not see the Authorization succeeded message, please contact UIT for help.
13. SPSS is now installed, and fully licensed. You can launch it from the Launchpad, or by opening a Finder window, select Applications > IBM SPSS Statistics 31 > SPSS Statistics.
