Updating your iPhone, iPad and Mac devices

Keeping your iOS devices (like iPhones and iPads) and Mac devices (such as iMacs and MAcbooks) up to date helps ensure they stay secure and receive the latest features. This guide will walk you through the steps to update your device. 

iPad/iPhone Updates


1. From your Home Screen, Locate the Settings App.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • If you are unable to locate the Settings App please swipe all the way to the left to view your "App Library" From here you can search for SettingsUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

2. Open "Settings" > "General" > "Software Update"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • After clicking in Software Update you will then see if there is an update available for installation - Here you can select your update options.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  • Please note it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour to update your device - during which it will have to restart.
  • If there are no updates present then you are up to date.
 

macOS Updates


To update your Mac you will want to open "System Settings"

From there look for "Software Update Available". Clicking that will bring you to the Software Update tab, which will allow you to update.

Otherwise you will have to click on "General" and then "Software Update"

The installation time depends on the type of update:

  • Minor or Patch updates generally take between 10-15 minutes
  • Major updates (e.g., upgrading from macOS 14 to macOS 15) may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your Mac's hardware. Older systems may experience longer installation times.
