Update my computer

Windows

  1. If you are working remotely on a UND-owned machine, you will first need to connect to the UND Campus VPN:  GlobalProtect VPN
    • To make sure your system is secure and up to date, we ask that you connect to the campus VPN at least once a week. Connecting to the campus VPN will configure your device to receive updates directly from Microsoft.
  2. Search for Check for Windows updates or navigate to the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

How to Download macOS Updates (Ventura and Later)

  • Starting with macOS 13 (Ventura), Apple redesigned System Preferences, to have a more iOS-like appearance, renaming it to System Settings. To download the latest macOS updates on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later, follow these steps:

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Click on Software Update

If there are no pending updates, you will see a message confirming that your Mac is up to date.

UIT Recommendations for Staying Current on Security and Updates

To ensure your system stays up-to-date with the latest security and macOS updates, UIT recommends adjusting a few settings:

  1. While in General > Software Update, click the "i" icon next to Automatic Updates.
  2. This will open additional options for keeping your system updated. UIT suggests enabling the following settings:
  • Download new updates when available
  • Install macOS updates
  • Install security responses and system files

By enabling these options, you'll ensure that your Mac receives important updates automatically to maintain security and performance.
