Infobase is an online professional development and training program, comprising an extensive library of short, easy-to-understand tutorial videos. It's a great resource for students, faculty, and staff to learn about a wide variety of topics, with subjects ranging from software/applications to career skills and personal development. Your instructor may assign specific courses or videos, or you can use the search tool to find tutorials that interest you. The videos are organized into 'courses', similar to a playlist on a specific topic. Infobase keeps track of your progress, and once you complete a course, your accomplishment is recognised with a badge. Many courses are available in beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, and the available topics include:

Software & Applications

• Blackboard - basics and plug-ins, student and instructor versions
• Microsoft / Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
• Google - Sheets, Docs, other apps
• OSx - system, apps
• Qualtrics
• AutoCAD
• HTML5, Javascript, Java and other programming for web and mobile apps
• Blender and game art/design
• Adobe Creative Cloud - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and more

Scholarly Skills

• Research skills, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and note taking
• Writing & grammar - scholarly and business
• Chicago, APA, & MLA style basics, reference building, avoiding plagiarism
• Creating unique presentations, infographics, & research posters

Infobase is available for faculty, staff, and students to use free of charge! You can access it through Blackboard (see instructions below), or use this direct link to visit the stand-alone website. Log in using your NDUS.Identifier and password, and the video courses will be available for you to watch whenever you need them.

First Time Access

If you are new to UND and have not previously logged into Hoonuit/Infobase, you can create your account manually.

1. Log into Blackboard.
    
2. Navigate to your Blackboard course and open the folder containing the Infobase link (location set by your instructor).
    
3. Click the Infobase link to open the page within Blackboard. The link may have a different title, but the icon will match the one shown below.
   
    
4. This will create your Infobase account and automatically log you in.
    
5. You can now access Infobase from the links in your course, or use the direct link to log in without going through Blackboard.

Graded vs Non-Graded Infobase Course Links

There are two types of Infobase link:

• Infobase link - links to a video or course, no grades are given
• Infobase graded assignment link - links to a video or course, in addition, you must complete all objectives to receive a grade

Both types of Infobase link will look like the below example. Please check the link description (or your course syllabus) to see if progress in the Infobase course will be graded. Graded links may also have a corresponding column on your Blackboard My Grades page, and they allow instructors to review your progress in the playlist. They can see which videos and other items you have completed, and any assessment scores. Regular links may be completed at you own pace.

How to Complete a Graded Infobase Course

The links to graded courses function like the regular ones, and bring you to an Infobase 'course' page – but they also sync progress information with Blackboard Grade Center. Each course covers one topic, and contains a playlist of videos and interactive material to help you learn independently. You can complete all of the assigned items to earn a grade. Requirements range from watching one video to viewing multiple and submitting a response (or other activities and assessments).

The activity categories* may be found by using the tabs at the top of the Infobase course page:

• LearnIt - view tutorial videos on a selected topic
• DoIt - access related activities, like written response prompts to submit via this link
• ShareIt - share completed activities with the InfoBase community
• ProveIt - complete a comprehensive assessment, such as a short quiz on the course topic
  * Available categories may vary, depending on the tutorial and items required by your instructor.
  

Navigate to the Infobase course, explore activities, and complete the assignment:

1. In your Blackboard course, locate the assignment link and check its description for more information about grading and the requirements for this assignment. Click the link title to open the Infobase course page.
   
    
2. This will open the Infobase plug-in and bring you directly to the specified course. Assigned items appear in a playlist on the right of the page. You can use the tabs above the playlist to see items in other categories (LearnIt, DoIt, ShareIt, ProveIt).
   
    
3. When you play a video or complete an activity, the icon to its left will turn green. To check your progress, scroll down and take a look at the icons, or hover over the top menu to display the overall completion percentage.
   
    
4. Once you have completed all activities in the Infobase course, your grade will appear in Bb's My Grades (in a column of the same name). Infobase assignments are pass-fail by default: watch and complete all items in all tabs to receive the full score – no points will be awarded for partial completion.
   Note: Your instructor may use a custom grading schema to award partial credit. Please see the assignment link in Blackboard for details about grading, or ask your instructor for information.
