Summary
Instructions to view and grade by question (rather than by student) in a Blackboard Original course's Grade Center. This process: saves time, allows you to concentrate on the answer for one question across all submissions, lets you see how all students responded, allows you to provide immediate feedback about how the group performed on that particular question, and allows you to easily adjust the score for a specific question (for all or many students).
Body
While grading any test, instructors may choose to view responses by question, rather than by student. This process allows graders to:
- Save time
- Concentrate on the answer for one question across all submissions
- See how all students responded
- Provide immediate feedback about how the group performed on that particular question
- Easily revisit a question that requires a score adjustment for all or many students
Graders can also grade questions with student names hidden. During this process, all test attempts retain the 'Needs Grading' status until after you have graded all of the responses for every question.
- Either:
- In the Grade Center, locate the desired exam, click the chevron to open the column's drop-down menu, and select Grade Questions
- or, on the Needs Grading page, access a test's menu, and select Grade by Question.
- On the Grade Questions page, you can:
- Click on the number listed in the Responses column to access the grading page for that question
- Filter the questions by status: Graded, Needs Grading, or In Progress
- Select the check box to Grade with User Names Hidden (optional)
- For each question, click on the number listed in the Responses column.
- This will open the question's 'Grade Responses' page, where you can enter grades for each student. You can also:
- Expand the 'Question Information' section to view the question's text.
- Select Hide User Names > OK to enable anonymous grading.
- Select Edit next to the score for a student.
- Type a grade in the Score box. Optionally, you may add Response Feedback specific to the individual question (the feedback box only appears for certain question types, such as Essays). Then click Submit to save your changes. Optionally, if you associated a rubric with Essay, Short Answer, or File Response questions, select View Rubric to grade the question with the rubric.
- After grading all student responses, select Back to Questions to return to the Grade Questions page.
