What is Qualtrics?

Qualtrics is a powerful online survey tool available to all faculty, staff and students at UND for academic purposes.

The Research Suite allows researchers the capacity to build complex surveys that fulfill a variety of research needs. This tool can build surveys incorporating features such as branching, skip logic, response timing, video and audio integration, direct export to SPSS and Excel, and much more.

Where do I Start?

Log into Qualtrics

To log in, enter your NDUS.Identifier and password for Qualtrics. Qualtrics will ask you if you would like to link an account; if you are a new user, you can decline (this would be for users who are migrating data from previously-created accounts).

Link an Existing Qualtrics Account

If you already have a Qualtrics account that is not associated with your NDUS.Identifier, you can transfer your existing projects to your UND account.

To migrate your account:

  1. Log in to Qualtrics using your NDUS.Identifier credentials.
  2. When prompted, choose the option indicating that you already have a Qualtrics account.
  3. Follow the instructions to merge your existing data with your UND account.

Benefits of a UND Account

Your UND.qualtrics.com account has an unlimited number of surveys.

Create an Accessible Survey

Use the New Survey Taking Experience

Qualtrics offers a new survey taking experience that simplifies the survey building process by limiting customization options. This experience is optimized for mobile use, aligns with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines, and uses streamlined themes that reduce the need for manual accessibility customization.

For information on how to enable the New Survey Taking Experience, visit TTaDA’s Building an Accessible Survey page.

Choose Accessible Question Types

Not all question types in Qualtrics are accessible. When building your survey, be sure to use formats that can be easily navigated with a screen reader or keyboard.

For a list of accessible and non-accessible question types, see TTaDA’s Building an Accessible Survey page.

Add Alternative Text

Provide concise and meaningful alternative text for images added to your survey. This ensures that users who rely on screen readers can understand the content of visual elements, even if they can’t see them.

For detailed instructions on how to add alternative text to images in your survey, visit TTaDA’s Building an Accessible Survey page.

Check Your Survey Accessibility

Expert Review is Qualtrics' built-in review tool that helps you create high-quality, accessible surveys. This tool scans your survey for errors, assesses its compliance with WCAG accessibility standards, and evaluates the quality of used survey elements (methodology). It also provides actionable recommendations to improve the functionality of your survey for all users.

You can access this tool from the Survey Tab.

  1. Click on the Tools button.
  2. Select the Review option.
  3. Choose Check Survey Accessibility.
