Personal Area Network (PAN)

  • Your Personal Area Network is a private network for your devices. This is a secure network where your devices will be able to interact with all your devices added to your account. Up to 10 simultaneously active devices.
  • This will enable you to enjoy the benefits and functionality you would have in a home or small office network.
  • You will be able to access your printer and print from your devices, pair any smart devices to devices added to your account and take advantage of the functionality of all the internet of things (IoT).
  • When you register a device and connect to the network with your WiFi Password (PSK), your devices are automatically grouped together.
  • After all of your devices are connected to WiFi, connect them the same way you would at home – they can "see" each other on the network.

Login FAQ

Question: How do I retrieve my username and password?
Answer: If you are a current student, your login credentials have been provided by the school. You will need to go to the appropriate school-owned portal to request your username and password.

My Account

Question: How many devices can I have active at once?
Answer: Your account will be allowed a limited number of active devices at one time. When you log into your account you will see the current number of connected devices and maximum active devices allowed on your home page. You will not be able to connect more devices simultaneously than your maximum limit. Once the limit is reached, you will need to disconnect a device in order to connect a new one. Note that there may be a lag between when a device is disconnected and the system recognizes that a new device can be connected. There is an additional limit to the total number of devices (or Wi-Fi/MAC addresses) listed in your account - that maximum is 50 devices. If you hit this limit due to rotating Wi-Fi/MAC address settings, you will need to log into your account and delete old Wi-Fi/MAC addresses that are no longer used by your active devices.

Question: Can I have a router?
Answer: Routers are not permitted on the network due to wireless interference negatively impacting other users' internet connectivity and quality of service. This includes MiFi-type routers that use cellular data, as the router will still broadcast on a wireless channel that will interfere with the larger Wi-Fi network. Users do not need routers, as their devices will be on the users' individual Personal Area Network, allowing their wireless devices to communicate securely within the wireless network. If you currently utilize a router, you will be required to disconnect the equipment in order to remove the interference impacting other users on the network.

Question: Can I cast from device to device?
Answer: Casting from one device to another device is supported. Devices you wish to be able to cast to must be added to your account.

Question: Can I use smart home devices?
Answer: Yes, you will be able to add your smart home devices to your account and set them up within your Personal Area Network (PAN).

Personal Area Network

Question: What is a Personal Area Network (PAN)?
Answer: Your Personal Area Network is a private network for your devices. This is a secure network where your wireless devices can interact with each other once added to your account. This will enable you to enjoy the benefits and functionality you would have in a home or small office network. You will be able to access your printer and print from your devices, pair any smart devices to devices added to your account and take advantage of the functionality of all the internet of things (IoT).

Question: How do I use the Personal Area Network?

MAC Address

Question: What is a MAC Address?
Answer: A MAC address is a hardware identification number that is unique to each device that can connect to a network. A device that can connect with a wired Ethernet connection has a wired or an ethernet MAC address. If the device can connect to a Wi-Fi network, it will have a wireless MAC address. Question: Can I use an existing image for the MAC Address?
Answer: Yes, instead of using the camera, you can go to an image gallery and select the image to use. Do verify that the image shows the correct MAC Address for the device to be added. You will see an error if this MAC Address is already used on another account.

Question: Why is the MAC Address not being recognized in the image?
Answer: If the image processing system cannot identify a MAC Address, check and make sure the following conditions are true:

  1. The image shows a valid MAC Address: there should be 6 pairs of letters and numbers from 0-9 and a-f, separated by colons or dashes.
  2. The lighting and size of the address in the image make the address clear and distinct.

Question: How do I find the MAC Address in order to take a picture of it?
Answer: After selecting the Device Type, click or tap on the "Find MAC Address" link above the MAC Address entry field. This will give instructions for most devices. If you are still unable to find the MAC Address, you may need to search on the web for specific manufacturer instructions for your device.

Common Troubleshooting Issues

Question: Why can't I add my device?
Answer: If you have entered the MAC Address but are receiving an error trying to add your device to your account, check the following:

  1. Is the MAC Address valid? MAC Addresses use any number and the letters from 'a' to 'f', and should have exactly 12 characters (not including colons or dashes).
  2. Is the MAC Address already used on a device in your account? Check to make sure you are not duplicating another device's address. MAC addresses are unique for every device.
  3. Is this device registered on another user's account? The system checks to make sure each MAC Address is unique across all user accounts at the site. If another user has registered this device, you cannot add it to your account. If you have another account with this device registered, you cannot add it to this account.

DMCA Violation Notice

Question: What is DMCA?
Answer: DMCA refers to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, passed in 1998 to protect digital copyrighted works distributable via the internet. The law makes any person legally liable for the unlicensed distribution of copyrighted software (or other digital property) from their device. You can learn more about DMCA from the An external link was removed to protect your privacy..

Question: Why would I get a DMCA violation notice?
Answer: If you receive a DMCA violation notice, it is because Boldyn received a copyright infringement notice from a copyright holder (typically a software publisher) indicating that your device was responsible for distributing a game or other software, typically through an application such as BitTorrent. Boldyn is legally required to identify the user of the device found to be in violation and pass along the notice received from the copyright holder. In addition, based on Boldyn’s service agreement with your institution, your institution may receive these notices and your account may be suspended.

Question: I was not downloading anything, so how am I violating DMCA?
Answer: When you join a peer-to-peer service such as BitTorrent or similar services, you are allowing other users to access content on your system which they can download. This is part of the architecture of peer-to-peer services, where users download content from each other’s systems rather than a central server. When another user of the service downloads copyrighted materials from your computer, you become legally liable for the unlawful distribution of copyrighted content. This can trigger the DMCA Violation Notice as well as suspension of internet access and possibly legal action against you.

Question: What happens if I receive more DMCA violation notices?
Answer: Based on the service contract with your institution, repeat violations may include suspension of internet access for your account for varying timeframes, up to permanent account suspension. As an internet service provider, Boldyn is obligated to comply with any subpoenas issued by copyrights holders or their agents, which may result in legal action by the copyright holder. Read your notice carefully to understand the legal actions which a copyright holder may be threatening.

iOS18 Apple Devices

Question: I have iOS18 and see a feature to Rotate my Wi-Fi Address. Should I turn that on?
Answer: No, this new iOS18 security feature is not needed once you have connected to a secure network, and your Apple device will turn it off by default. Please leave it off for the best connection experience. The Wi-Fi network will recognize your device based on your Wi-Fi Password used when connecting to the secure network.

Question: What happens if I turn on the Rotate Wi-Fi Address feature?
Answer: If Rotation is turned on, the network will begin registering every Wi-Fi address that you rotate through and will eventually hit a limit (currently set to 50). Once that limit is reached, you will need to log into your account and delete the older unused Wi-Fi addresses in order to connect to Wi-Fi again.

Issues Connecting to Live Chat

Question: If you have an issue connecting to Live Chat
Answer: Clear your cookies and browser cache and try again. This will close any previous chat attempts that were not terminated.

Question: If you receive a Session Expired message, even after tapping the Refresh button
Answer: This is a known issue in the Chrome Web Browser due to blocking 3rd-party cookies. Other browsers based on Chrome may also activate the same default behavior. In Chrome, click on the Settings icon in the web address bar and turn off “Tracking Protection” to allow Chat functions on this website. You may need to reload the page. Alternatively, you may choose to download a non-Chrome browser such as An external link was removed to protect your privacy. to avoid the issue.
