Duo - Obtain and Use a Hardware Token

Summary

A hardware token is a small key fob-like device with an internal passcode generator that can be associated with a two-factor (DUO) account. With the press of a button, it will generate and display a single-use passcode to complete the second step of a login.

Body

Hardware tokens are small devices that generate single-use passcodes for two-factor authentication (Duo). These tokens are linked to your UND credentials and have a battery life of about 2 years.

Faculty, staff, and students who cannot use other devices for Duo authentication can request a hardware token.

Situations needing a hardware token:

  • Restricted areas without mobile phones or landlines
  • No mobile phone or landline

Request a token by submitting service request ticket. Tokens are picked up at the UIT front desk at Chester Fritz Library.

The first token is free; replacements cost $14 if lost or broken. Contact UIT immediately to deactivate a lost or stolen token. Return tokens to UIT if leaving UND.
