Body
Note: Infobase recently acquired Hoonuit (formerly Atomic Learning) – you may see the old branding on some pages during the transition.
Infobase is an online professional development and training program, comprising an extensive library of short, easy-to-understand tutorial videos. It's a great resource for students, faculty, and staff to learn about a wide variety of topics, with subjects ranging from software/applications to career skills and personal development. Instructors may assign entire courses or individual videos, and students can complete assignments or use the search tool to find tutorials and learn independently.
The videos are organized into 'courses', similar to a playlist on a specific topic, with additional content like assignments and tests. Infobase keeps track of the student's progress, and once they complete a course, the accomplishment is recognised with a badge and score in the Bb Grade Center (optional). Many courses are available in beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, so students start where they feel comfortable and progress at their own speed. Please see the steps below (or our video walk-through) to set up an Infobase link in your Blackboard course. For instructions you can share with students, please see our other Knowledge Base article.
How to Add an Infobase Link to Your Blackboard Course
- Open the Blackboard course where you would like to embed the training.
- In your Course Content tab, select the plus icon where you would like to add the link to Infobase/embed the training. This can be an existing area or you can create a new folder for Infobase links.
- Select Content Market and then select the plus button in the Infobase Learning Cloud (Hoonuit) - UND to start adding content.
- A placeholder for adding content will display and be hidden from students. Select the placeholder to inititate the Infobase Learning Cloud content search box.
- On the Infobase set-up page, use the search bar and optional filters, or scroll to browse and locate the training you would like students to complete.
- On the search results page, locate the desired Infobase course and click the "+Content" button (to the right) to view the course contents: a video playlist and available activities for that course.
- Each course consists of multiple items with various levels of interactivity, such as videos, knowledge checks, etc. Select the content you would like to assign by using the check boxes next to each item. You can also select entire item categories from the top menu: LearnIt (view tutorial videos), DoIt (access related activities), ShareIt (share completed activities with the InfoBase community), and ProveIt (complete a comprehensive assessment). Available categories may vary, depending on the tutorial's topic. Once you have marked all of the desired content, click Submit to save the settings.

- A "Submission Successful" message should appear and you can close out of the window to return to the Blackboard course.
- You may rename add the Infobase Learning Cloud content item and provide a description by selecting the three dot button on the right side of content item in Blackboard and choosing "Edit."
- This is a great place to indicate whether the link will be graded, since both graded and non-graded Infobase links will look the same to students.
- You may also add instructions for completing the assignment.
- It may be helpful to create a separate content item link to our Knowledge Base article with a walk-through for students on using Infobase.
- To enable grading for the Infobase course associated with the link, use the three dot button and choose "Edit." Select the checkbox to "Create gradebook entry for this item" and select additional settings for due date, points, etc. and then select "Save."
Grading Infobase Assignments
- Set Up - If you selected to "Create gradebook entry for this assignment," Blackboard will create a corresponding column in the course's Gradebook.
- Multiple Infobase Links/Assignments - You can create multiple assignment links, and a column will be added to the Gradebook for each item that is selected to be graded.
- Automatic Grade Sync - Infobase will sync students' grades with Blackboard Gradebook. They must complete all items that you selected when setting up the link to receive any points. The number/score awarded for any specific item is irrelevant – simply completing the items (by watching videos or submitting assessments) will count toward their final score. If they only complete some of the assigned items, their score remain at zero (blank or '--') until they fully complete the assignment or get a score from an assessment.
NOTE: If you checked multiple items when setting up the Infobase link (i.e. videos and activities like DoIt or ProveIt), students must watch/complete all of the selections before they will receive a grade. Students can check their progress by clicking the Infobase link, then hovering over the green menu at the top-right of the page (see screenshot below). The items' icons also turn green as they are completed (see second video link in the playlist, below). You can always review this score and adjust the final grade to account for it. You may also wish to change the final grade to account for partial progress through the playlist (anything less than full completion of all items receives no credit from Infobase, and shows up as a '0' in the Gradebook).
