Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom web browser that is compatible with Mac and Windows. It locks down the testing environment within Blackboard, so test-takers are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit for grading.
North Dakota University System's instance of Respondus LockDown is NOT currently compatible with Chromebooks as it presents technical issues with the Blackboard integration.
Note: If you are required to use Respondus LockDown Browser for your exam, you must disable other proctoring browser extensions before opening Respondus LockDown Browser such as Honorlock.
Prepare for Your Exam
Install Respondus LockDown Browser before the day of your exam:
- Download the Respondus LockDown Browser install file for Mac or PC – make sure you download the correct file type for your operating system (see the Version section of that page to confirm compatibility).
- Once the download is complete, open the file to initiate the installation - just follow the on-screen instructions.
