Install Citrix Workspace

Choose your operating system below.


Windows

  1. Download the installer for Windows PCs.
  2. Once done downloading, open the file CitrixWorkspaceApp.exe and click Start to begin the installation.

  1. Accept the license agreement and click Next.

  1. The Workspace app offers a feature called App Protection, which can increase privacy from certain kinds of malware. Click Install after making your selection. Enabling the App Protection feature will prevent UND Tech Support from assisting users via screen-sharing with Citrix Workspace-related issues. We suggest users weigh the added privacy against the potential inconvenience of this feature, and choose accordingly.

  1. Click Install to begin app installation. Once complete, click the Add Account button to proceed with setup.

Mac

  1. Download the installer for Apple Macs.
  2. Double-Click the downloaded CitrixWorkspaceApp.dmg file. Double-click the Install Citrix Workspace.pkg icon.

  1. Click Continue.

  3. Click Continue, then Agree.

  4. Enter your Mac User Name and Password, then click Install Software.

  5. Check the box labeled Add Account, then click Continue.

  6. When the installation completes, click Close, then Move To Trash.

  1. Download and install Citrix Workspace for ChromeOS


Initial Configuration

  1. After install, from the Add Account window, type the UND Citrix website address: https://myapps.und.edu and click Add.In the blank field, add the Citrix website address: https://myapps.und.edu and click Add.

Open/Save Files Through Citrix

Warning! Be sure that when first accessing an application you allow read/write access/full access or permit all access, when prompted.
Info! This example shows Opening a File in SPSS for Windows, but applies to all Citrix programs.
  1. SPSS files are saved as .sav files. To open these files from your desktop, click Open another file… in the SPSS popup window.

  1. This will open a browse to window. Click the dropdown menu, scroll up and select Local Disk "(C: on [your computer name])Users, your username, and finally DesktopIf you back up your Desktop using OneDrive and do not see your Desktop available in the navigation, navigate to your OneDrive>Desktop instead.
Danger! To save to your desktop, select  Local Disk "(C: on [your computer name]) > Users > [your username] > Desktop.

This will open a browse to window. Click the dropdown menu, scroll up and select Local Disk "(C: on [your computer name]), Users, your username, and finally Desktop.

  1. Your SPSS files should be there if they were located on your desktop.

  1. Select the Dataset you want to open and click Open and then Okay.

Saving a File in SPSS using Citrix

  1. Now, to save a Dataset you've worked on in SPSS, in the top navigation, click File, and then Save As.

Now, to save a Dataset you"ve worked on in SPSS, in the top navigation, click File, and then Save As.

  1. Again, you will want to go to the dropdown menu and select Local Disk (C: on [your computer name]), Users, your username, and finally Desktop.

This will open a browse to window. Click the dropdown menu, scroll up and select Local Disk "(C: on [your computer name]), Users, your username, and finally Desktop.

  • If you save to the default location on the Citrix server, you will not be able to find the file on your machine nor retrieve it later.

This is the Citrix server. DO NOT SAVE HERE!

  1. Now your SPSS Dataset, the .sav file, has been saved to your Desktop.

Saving to the U-Drive

Info! The U-Drive is available to all students, faculty, and staff for data storage. Each U-Drive account contains 1 GB of space and can be access using computers in UND computer labs, through Citrix, or remotely.

  1. When saving in Citrix, look for the drive labeled NDUS.Identifier HOME(U:)  For example, jane.doe HOME (U:)

Accessing Engineering Lab Virtual Desktops

  1. Install and log in to Citrix.
  2. Access the virtual desktop.
    1. If using the Citrix Workspace desktop client, click the + option on the left and select All Applications. Locate the Engineering Lab icon to launch the virtual desktop. 
    2. If you do not see the Engineering Lab listed, you will need to log in and click refresh apps.

  1. If using the Citrix web client, click on the Desktop tab to locate and launch the virtual desktop.

  1.  Once the virtual desktop loads, locate the Engineering Lab folder or click the Windows start button and select All Programs to view a list of available programs. Select the program you wish to load.
Danger! Any files saved to the virtual desktop will be deleted after the session ends.

Troubleshoot

Unable to open up this file that I created in Citrix on my machine

When you have created a file in Citrix, you may save it to any number of folders and locations that you have access to.  If you save it to your home machine and then try to open up the file without having Citrix open, it will give you an error message. 

When you use Citrix, you are accessing a "Virtual Machine" that has these programs installed on it.  Because the programs (such as Microsoft Word or SPSS) are not installed on your computer, you cannot open the files until you connect back to Citrix and open them through the program. 


Citrix error, "The Citrix server has reached its concurrent application limit for this application"

If you receive the following error message when attempting to open an application, then all available copies of that application are currently in use. This is a generic system error that is reported.

"The Citrix server has reached its concurrent application limit for this application."

You can also receive this error if you are trying to open up a program that you already have opened and did not close properly. If this is the case, please restart your machine.


Add a server to ChemCAD

Before first use, a server must be added for ChemCad in Citrix to work.

  1. Go to the Citrix login page at https://myapps.und.edu and log in with NDUS.identifier and password.
  2. Click on the Desktop tab to locate and launch the virtual desktop.
  3. Once the virtual desktop loads, locate the Engineering Lab folder or click the Windows start button and select All Programs to view a list of available programs.
  4. Click on the ChemCad icon from the list of available applications.
  5. Once ChemCad connects, a No License Found dialog box will appear. Click the Setup button.
  6. A new dialog box for License Setup will pop up. Click the Add/remove Servers button.
  7. Under the Select Server Type, select SuperProNet and type undcemlic04.und.edu in the Server Name or Address field.
  8. Click Add Server and then OK.
  9. The Licensed products dialog box should appear within 10-20 seconds and show the CC-STEADY STATE available and ready for use.
  10. Click Continue to begin using the application.
