Use SPSS for class

UND Students access SPSS through Citrix Workspace. Citrix is like a virtual computer with apps and programs already installed. With Citrix you can use Windows programs on a Mac, for instance. To use Citrix, you must install the Citrix Workspace on your computer.

Install Citrix Workspace

Open SPSS in Citrix Workspace

  1. Click the Citrix icon to open Citrix Workspace.

  1. If asked to log in, use your NDUS credentials (first.last).
  2. On first launch, click the + symbol on the left side of the main Workspace window.
  3. Select All Applications. From the list of applications, find and click SPSS, which will add the SPSS icon to the Citrix Workspace dashboard.
  4. Click the SPSS Statistics 26 icon.
  5. Wait for the app to load.

Open a file from your Desktop in SPSS

  1. From within SPSS, select Open another file....

  1. You must browse to your desktop. The path is usually Local Disk (C: on [your computer name]), Users, [your username], Desktop.

This will open a browse to window. Click the dropdown menu, scroll up and select Local Disk "(C: on [your computer name]), Users, your username, and finally Desktop.

  1. Your SPSS files should be there if they were located on your desktop.

  1. Select the Dataset you want to open and click Open and then Okay.

Saving an SPSS file to your Desktop

  1. Now, to save a Dataset you've worked on in SPSS, in the top navigation, click File, and then Save As.

Now, to save a Dataset you"ve worked on in SPSS, in the top navigation, click File, and then Save As.

  1. Again, you will want to go to the dropdown menu and select Local Disk (C: on [your computer name]), Users, your username, and finally Desktop.

This will open a browse to window. Click the dropdown menu, scroll up and select Local Disk "(C: on [your computer name]), Users, your username, and finally Desktop.

  • If you save to the default location on the Citrix server, you will not be able to find the file on your machine nor retrieve it later.

This is the Citrix server. DO NOT SAVE HERE!

  1. Now your SPSS Dataset, the .sav file, has been saved to your Desktop.
